Chapter 1 General Provisions
Article 1 To encourage diligent study and research among self-funded international students and stimulate their innovative potential, the Beijing Municipal Government and Beihang University jointly establish the Beijing Foreign Student Scholarship—the Beihang University Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship.
Article 2 The evaluation process for the "Special Scholarship for Self-funded Foreign Students" shall be conducted in accordance with the principles of "openness, fairness, impartiality, and merit-based selection."
Chapter 2 Scope and Levels of Scholarship Awards
Article 3 The "Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship" is awarded to self-funded international students, including continuing education students, undergraduate students, master's students, and doctoral students.
The "Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship" is divided into special prizes, first prizes, second prizes, and third prizes. First prizes, second prizes, and third prizes receive a 100%, 50%, and 20% tuition waiver, respectively. Special prizes receive a 100% tuition waiver and provide partial or full living expenses, with the living allowance standard set for Chinese Government Scholarship recipients. The "Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship" lasts for one year, and awardees will receive a certificate from Beihang University.
Chapter 3 Scholarship Categories and Quotas
Article 4 Application Requirements for Self-funded International Students
(I) Undergraduate Scholarship Requirements:
1. Self-funded international students applying for undergraduate programs at Beihang University
2. Abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of Beihang University
3. Excellent academic performance and conduct during high school
4. Top-scoring students in the entrance examination
5. Not receiving scholarships from other institutions or organizations
(II) Graduate and Continuing Education Requirements
1. Self-funded international students applying for master's and doctoral degrees at Beihang University or for continuing education at Beihang University
2. Abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of Beihang University
3. Graduates from reputable universities with excellent academic performance
4. Top-scoring students in the entrance examination
5. Outstanding achievements or significant development potential in their field of work or study
6. Not receiving scholarships from other institutions or organizations
Article 5 Scholarship Application Requirements for Current International Students
(I) Application Requirements for Current Undergraduate Students:
1. Self-funded international students who have completed one year of undergraduate study at Beihang University.
2. Abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of Beihang University.
3. Have a positive attitude towards learning, be diligent and hardworking, and have excellent academic performance in the previous academic year.
4. Actively participate in various public welfare activities and social practice activities organized by the university and its departments.
(II) Application Requirements for Current Graduate and Continuing Scholars:
1. Self-funded international students who have completed one year of undergraduate study at Beihang University.
2. Abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of Beihang University.
3. Have studied in the past 12 months. Those who have one of the following outstanding performances during the year:
(1) Published academic papers in the name of Beihang University in important international academic journals (generally SCI or SSCI source journals), domestic core journals (generally EI source journals or equivalent EI source journals), and important international academic conferences in this field (must be included in ISTP), and the applicant is the first author or second author (in this case, the supervisor must be the first author)
(2) Research work and papers have innovative or outstanding results
(3) Positive learning attitude, hard work, and excellent academic performance in the previous academic year
4. Actively participated in various public welfare activities and social practice activities organized by the school and departments
Article 6 Applicants who meet any of the following conditions are ineligible to apply for the "Self-Funded Foreign Student Scholarship":
(1) Those who have been subject to criminal detention, public security penalties, or administrative sanctions for violating Chinese laws, regulations, or Beihang University's school rules and regulations.
(2) Those who are late, leave early, or absent from class without reason, or who have seriously violated classroom discipline.
(3) Those who have failed a course assessment specified in the curriculum.
Article 7: Application Procedures for the "Self-Funded Foreign Student Scholarship"
Eligible international students must submit the following application materials to the International Student Affairs Office of Beihang University's International College:
(1) An "Application Form for the Self-Funded Foreign Student Scholarship" completed by the international student. The application form can be obtained from the International Student Affairs Office of Beihang University's International College or downloaded from http://is.buaa.edu.cn.
(2) Undergraduate students applying for the "Self-Funded Foreign Student Scholarship" must provide the previous year's examination transcripts and a letter of recommendation from the relevant department or class instructor. Graduate students must provide all course examination transcripts, proof of publication of various papers, award certificates, and a letter of recommendation from their advisor.
(3) The application period for the "Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship" for new international students is from March 20th to May 20th, and the application period for current students is from May 10th to May 25th of each year.
Chapter 4 Scholarship Evaluation
Article 8 The University shall establish a "Foreign Student Scholarship Evaluation Committee," whose members shall consist of the University's senior leadership, heads of relevant departments such as the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, International College, International Exchange and Cooperation Office, and Finance Office, as well as experts and professors in relevant disciplines. The University's senior leadership shall serve as the committee leader, and the head of the International College shall serve as the committee's deputy leader and secretary-general, responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the scholarship.
Article 9 The Secretariat of the Foreign Student Scholarship Evaluation Committee shall determine the applicant's qualifications, application requirements, and application materials, conduct a preliminary evaluation, and submit its preliminary evaluation opinion to the University's Foreign Student Scholarship Evaluation Committee for approval.
Article 10 The Foreign Student Scholarship Evaluation Committee shall conduct an evaluation based on the Secretariat's preliminary evaluation opinion and application materials. It may invite applicants for interviews if necessary. The final list of scholarship recipients shall be determined, and the final list shall be signed and finalized by the committee leader. Article 11: The list of recipients of the "Self-funded Foreign Student Scholarship" will be announced in July each year. After the announcement period expires, the recipients will be notified by formal letter.
